Mercedes CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake

After the recent debut of the Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake, AMG, Mercedes in house tuning division, has launched a more powerful version. Although the new Mercedes CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake has more power compared to its sister, the amazing coupe styling combined with its huge 1500litres storage space and designo wooden luggage space remain untouched.

As with all AMG beasts, the new CLS63 AMG gets an aggressive AMG front radiator grill with a single grill that is finished in chrome. The high-performance LED headlamps, Intelligent Light System and Adaptive High beam Assist remain unchanged. It also gets an all new front bumper that consist of LED strip fog lamps located at each end of the bumper.

An air splitter protrudes outs of the front and is finished in high-glass black. The new CLS63 also has an AMG designed bonnet, broader front wheel arches and gets the AMG V8 BITURBO identity. At the rear the unforgettable AMG rear apron is visible. It has the AMG sports exhaust system that deliver the classic AMG soundtrack from the engine. Unique CLS rear lights also remain unchanged. 

19 inch AMG light alloy wheels

Under the bonnet it has an AMG 5.5 litre V8 biturbo engine. The engine has an output of 525hp and 700Nm of torque. 0 to 100km/h takes just 4.4 seconds. However another version of the CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake called the Edition 1 has an even more powerful engine generating 557hp and 800nm of torque. 0 to 100km/h in this takes 4.3 seconds. Both versions are limited to 250km/h. Thanks to direct petrol injection and a host of other technologies fuel consumption is now pegged at 10.1 litres per 100kilometers. Married to the engine is the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission system.

AMG V8 heart

The system comes with four transmission modes as well as automatic double declutching mode and RACE START functions for the track. In “Controlled Efficiency” (C) mode, the ECO modes, start/stop function is always enabled. It switches the eight-cylinder engine off when the vehicle is at a standstill. In “S” (Sport), “S+” (Sport plus) and “M” (Manual) transmission modes, the engine and transmission delivers short and precise gear changes even under full load. Power is delivered on the road by the AMG RIDE CONTROL sport suspension.

Front headlamps remain unchanged

The suspension has steel struts on the front axle and air suspension struts on the rear axle. They can be level automatically depending on the driving condition. However the driver has three suspension modes to choose from. There is “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport plus”. To ensure quick deceleration the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Break can be ordered AMG Carbon Ceramic brakes. The ventilated and perforated brake discs offer the best braking performance at any speed. They are visible behind the 19 inch AMG light-alloy wheels featuring a triple spoke design.

There is a range of options for the five seater interior. The front AMG sports seats and rear seats are covered in nappa leather. AMG black piano trim is visible all-round the interior. AMG-specific analogue clock featuring an IWC design boosts the interiors look. The driver is also kept perfectly and fully informed thanks to the AMG instrument cluster. The instrument cluster has AMG main menu including RACETIMER and AMG start-up screen.

The transmission modes, suspension setup and the AMG program can all be configured via the AMG DRIVE UNIT with E-SELECT selector lever. The level is integrated into the center console and angled toward the driver. The driver holds the redesigned AMG steering wheel which features a three-spoke design with flattened top and bottom sections.

The steering is finished in perforated leather while shifter paddles located behind it are colored in silver aluminum. A new chrome look electronic key with AMG emblem is all the driver needs to start this amazing beast. A Bang and Ofulsen BeoSound ensures all occupants enjoy mind blowing surround sound. Its 16-channel DSP amplifier has an output of 1200 watts released from 14 high end-loudspeakers.

Just like the CLS63 AMG Coupe, the new Shooting Brake now has amazing pulling power. It now joins the league of the super wagons. The most astonishing thing is that it the most powerful wagon in the planet.
