The Toyota GT86 has returned the lost magic that was visible in past Toyota sports cars. It has quickly popularity all over the world as a true driver’s car. With its DNA implanted from legendary models such as the Supra and Celica, the new GT86 is with no doubt, the best car launched last year.
Toyota GT86 TDR |
Toyota’s performance department or TRD (Toyota Racing Development) have been busy with the GT86. The result of their hard is evident with the debut of the new Toyota GT86 TRD. Although TRD has worked hard on the stylish coupe body, the performance remains unchanged. So what have TRD added to the GT86? Well it gets new 18-inch cast TF6 alloys, deep front and side skirts, a rear bumper spoiler and a fast-response quad-exhaust system with a rear diffuser to increase stability.
Aggressive front |
Also on the list are HID headlamps, front fog lamps, limited slip differential, Smart Entry and Start, dual-zone climate control, analogue dials and meters, drilled aluminium pedals, sports seats, scuff plates, cruise control and the Toyota Touch multimedia system.
Side profile with unique wheels |
I am glad they did not touch the GT 86’s 2.0 litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This means that owners will have fun sliding its non-sticky tires on the track or road all day long. 0 to 100km/h time remains unchanged at7.7 seconds (with a manual shift of course). Choose the automatic transmission option and the ‘sticked’ GT86 TRD will leave you in the dust with 0.7 seconds to spare. The guy with the automatic version will be humiliated even more as it can reach a top speed of 209km/h. His counterpart will be smiling as the needle will rest at 225km/h.
Restyled sporty rear |
Want one? Then rush to your nearest Toyota dealer quick because only 500 GT86 TRD will be sold. All you need to pay is Kshs 4.3 million (£31,495) for the manual and Kshs 4.9 million (£32,995) for the auto. Toyota will then let you choose between a Pearl White and GT86 Black paint finish. I prefer the Black paint, which is unique and surely intimidates.
