Mercedes E63 AMG Series

Mercedes recently launched their new boldly styled E-Class series. The new car is not only the most updated of all E-Class models but it also represents the next chapter in the E-Class design and performance. Mercedes in house performance division, AMG, has been busy tuning and styling the new E-Class. The result is three new epic models; the E63 AMG, E63 AMG 4MATIC and the E63 AMG S-Model.

Mercedes E63 AMG S-Model Saloon and Estate

The Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is the first AMG model to present the new AMG design philosophy. The most prominent feature is the new AMG “twin blade” radiator grille in silver chrome and the so-called “A-wing” front bumper. The “A-wing” is painted in the car’s exterior colour. It has silver chrome strips that surround its three large cooling air intake openings. On the side air intakes, black flics provide for an ideal inflow of air into the cooling modules, while at the bottom a front splitter painted in the car’s exterior colour helps to reduce lift. Convex and concave surfaces dynamically combine to give the front a sculptural design.

Side profile of the S-Model AMG Saloon

At the side flared wings have a “V8 BITURBO” lettering that hints of the engine located behind the stylish full LED headlamps. A chrome strip side skirt is visible on all E63 versions. At the back the E63 AMG has striking air outlet openings at the sides.  This combined with the black exhaust strip and the two sets of twin chrome AMG sports tailpipes give the rear a sporty look. For the S-Model the “A-wing” at the front has an air splitter finished in silver chrome. The same colour is also visible on the striking three-dimensional inserts in the side air intakes. At the rear the exhaust strip and tips are finished in silver chrome. The saloon E63 AMG comes with a spoiler lip painted in the car’s exterior colour. The spoiler reduces lift at high speeds.

Mercedes E-Class range
The E63 AMG comes with a new 5.5litre V8 twin-turbo engine with an output of 557hp and 720Nm of torque. 0 to 100 kilometers takes just 4.2 seconds. It has an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. Power in this model is sent to the rear wheels. It will need 9.8 litres of fuel to cover 100 kilometers. The E63 AMG 4MATIC version comes with the same 557hp engine. However power to all the four wheels via an AMG performance oriented all-wheel drive system.

Mercedes E63 AMG S-Model

This version of the E63 AMG uses 10.3 litres per 100 kilometers. The top of the range S-Model version comes with a tuned version of the 5.5litre V8 twin-turbo engine. The engine has an output of 585hp and 800Nm of torque. Power is delivered by the AMG 4MATC all-wheel drive system that is fitted as standard. The increased power output means that 0 to 100km/h is dealt with in 3.6 seconds. This makes the E63 AMG S-Model the fastest accelerating E-Class yet. Fuel consumption is pegged at 10.5litres per 100 kilometers.

Rear design of the S-Model E63 AMG
All the three E63 AMG versions come with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission. The transmission has three performance modes “S”, “S+” and “M” mode. Choose the three modes and the ECO stop start system is activated. A fourth mode called “C” (Controlled Efficiency) allows the transmission to switch back to a smooth cruising automatic mode. The performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive distributes 67% of the power to the rear wheels. The rest is sent to the front wheel. This ensures that the car performs like a true AMG Mercedes. The all-wheel drive system also helps the E-63 AMG S-Model and 4MATIC versions to tackle any wet surface or slippery surface. The compact design of the all-wheel drive system ensures that the both versions weigh an extra 70kgs compared to the rear wheel drive versions.

All E63 models come with the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with electronically controlled damping system. The front axle employs a steel-spring suspension system, while the rear axle is fitted with a fully load-bearing air suspension system.
